Biz Tip of The Day: Zero in on Prospects Who Will Pay You What You are Worth

Biz Tip of the Day: Zero in on prospects who will pay you what you are worth. Clients will pay your rates when they see just how much you can do for them. Give them value and exemplary service and they will continue to do business with you. In order for this to work, you must be sure to target your ideal client. Remember it is a complete waste of your time and your prospects time to try and solicit business from anyone other than your ideal client. As a bonus, your clients will reward you with good referrals once they start getting great results from your services.

Ideally, your services or your product offer a better value to your clients, which in turn makes you more valuable to them. This gives you the opportunity to charge what you are worth and your clients will gladly pay for your outstanding services. Don’t be afraid to offer a money back guarantee; it is very reassuring to your clients. A money back guarantee tells your clients that you stand behind your services.

We judge ourselves by what we feel capable of doing, while others judge us by what we have already done: Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Biz Tip of The Day: Strike Out Against all Odds

Biz tip of the day:Strike out against all odds with passion -- your own passion. If you fail the first time, learn and try again. It is rare that the greatest successes among us ever succeeded the first time they struck out, but many do when they dare to follow their bliss.

A few years ago I visited a gold mine in Nevada run by two business executive from San Diego who gave up the corporate grind of working for someone else and struck out to pursue their life-long dream of gold mining. What a risk they put their wives and children through – they had to succeed and they did.

Biz Tip of The Day: Don't Dwell on the Negative

Don't dwell on the negative:

The reason I never lost confidence is because I never believed that the consequences of losing were as bad as some other people might have thought, you know? “Oh my goodness, I’ve lost my money!” or what have you. I mean, I just wasn’t motivated along those lines. And I was very, very, very sure that what we were doing was extremely important and was destined to be successful. So that’s the definition I think of an insane person, or a zealot. And most entrepreneurs, I think you would find, have that sort of green wire laid in there just a little bit cross-wise. And they begin to get focused on something, and they believe in the idea or themselves far beyond what they probably should.”
Fred Smith, Founder of FedEx

How do you like that kind of spirit for getting a totally untried concept off the ground with great success. American ingenuity is not dead and it is what will bring back economic prosperity to our country. It could be your turn. Go ahead, be positive and go for it!

Biz Tip of The Day: The Customer Isn't Always Right?

The customer isn't always right? No, but it it up to us to make the customer happy even when they aren't right. When a customer thinks he/she is right, but isn't, it is up to you to train your salesman, receptionist or manager to have options to offer in order to end up on a happy, agreeable note which you can both live with.

Sometimes, an immediate discount, a coupon, or a few kind words will accomplish a good end. It depends on what your wares are. Spend some time in your Monday Morning Sessions brainstorming to come up with suitable benefits to offer. You may start with one offer, and move to others as necessary until the customer is satisfied. These are pre approved offers which your staff member will not have to stop to obtain approval. It should come across as sincere and spontaneous which makes the customer know he/she is dealing with a trusted representative who cares.

Compromise as much as you can without breaking the bank, but do bear in mind, the customer is not always right as much as the 'old school' of customer relations touts such an unrealistic philosophy.

Biz Tip of The Day: Make it a Point to Train Everyone in Your Business

Communication is the single most important part of our livelihood, let's face it. Communication is how we build trust and respect among our peers and our clientele.

Make it a point to train everyone in your business the skills for conveying your message is the most visible light. This means from training in simple telephone etiquette, sales verbiage, techniques and helpful information, to making your website user-friendly. This is a start in the right direction to best utilize communication to your advantage. Make them want to do business with you and your staff.

Biz Tip of The Day: A Mediocre Idea

A mediocre idea that generates enthusiasm will go further than a great idea that inspires no one.
                                                                                                                                       - Mary Kay Ash

How true one sentence can be. That is why I keep encouraging entrepreneurs to use their ingenuity and to follow their passion to be successful in business, and in life.

Biz Tip of The Day: Business is Not Just Doing Deals

Business is not just doing deals; business is having great products, doing great engineering and providing tremendous service to customers. Finally, business is a cobweb of human relationship.

                                                                                                                - Henry Ross Perot

Like him or not, Perot is a smart and very successful businessman.

Biz Tip of The Day: What Should You Wear and Not Wear on TV?

What should you wear and not wear for TV interviews? Here is a list so you can look terrific for your TV interview:
  1. Blue is the all around best color for TV.
  2. Pastel shirts and blouses work well on TV.
  3. Don't wear white, black or red. White glows on the TV screen. Black is harsh and can use up all the light. Reds "bleed" and are distracting.
  4. Don't wear dangling earrings, or jewelery that jingles and could distract and bang into your microphone.
  5. Limit rings to one per hand, and all sparkly jewelry is out.
  6. Wear wrinkle-free clothing and don't hit your chest even for emphasis because it make a loud thud into your attached microphone.
  7. Stripes, herringbone, checks, and small busy designs are out.
  8. Keep your dress simple and rather dull to be safe.
  9. The idea is to get TV viewers to focus on your face and what you have to say, not your clothing and accessories.
  10. Men should have an inch of your shirt cuff showing.
  11. Wear colored pants.
  12. Avoid wearing a dark shirt, dark suit, and dark tie together.
  13. Men should wear high socks so the skin doesn't show if you cross your legs.
  14. Vests come across as stuffy on TV.
  15. Women should avoid wearing short skirts if you want the viewers to stay focused on your message.
  16. Avoid shiny hair products.
  17. Dispense with logos, company names or brands, except for your own company logo.
Like it or not people will judge you by your appearance and will remember little you said when you wear distracting garb.

Relax and speak about your book or your expertise – that should be easy for you. They aren't going to ask you anything else except what you are booked to speak about.

When it comes to TV make up, it is best left up to the professional or the very proficient in that area. There is a ton of information online with many conflicting tips and guidelines to follow. This is something you may not want to experiment  with on TV – it’s too late once you’re live.

Biz Tip of The Day: Offer Honest Products and Treat People with Decency

All through history, there have always been movements where business was not just about the accumulation of proceeds but also for the public good. I am still looking for the modern equivalent of those Quakers who ran successful businesses, made money because they offered honest products and treated their people decently. This business creed, sadly, seems long forgotten: Anita Roddick

Biz Tip of The Day: Use Pen Names Wherever Possible

Seriously consider using pen names instead of your real name, wherever possible. Remember, when you publish your birth date, address and name anywhere, it makes you an easy target for identity thieves. Don't make it easy for them and please, never, ever publish your social security number online.
"When somebody has the keys to your business and personal kingdom, that gives them all sorts of powerful information," according to Cloudmark senior researcher Mary Landesman. "They might be able to use it for years. This kind of information is ripe for extortion and blackmail,” Ms. Landesman says.

Biz Tip of The Day: Never Allow an Employee to Use His/Her Name to Create a Website

An important tip is something I learned the hard way in an organization I belonged to; never allow a volunteer or an employee to create a website, for example, under his/her name of which only they have control. It took a year to get the ex employee to take down that inactive site.
I know of another case where a disgruntled employee resigned and kept posting false negative information about the company on the company website, and nothing could be done about it since only he had passwords and control.

Biz Tip of The Day: Protect You and Your Business From Hackers

Protect you and your business from hackers. My first advice is to have a designated computer(s) to be used strictly for business information, files, and any data related to your dealing with customers, government entities, etc. Have separate computer (s) for Internet use. This is vital because of smarter and smarter hackers out there. Password Manager Programs are available to be used as tools eliminate having to memorize or constantly typing passwords. There is a whole host to choose from, one is LastPass, as an example.
Remember, whether or not you have such a tool, its password, or any other passwords must be known by you, or someone you designate, in addition to the necessary users. This protects your business from being crippled should a single employee suddenly leave without leaving the valuable password(s).
The first thing to do with a password manager is to create a lengthy password made up of some caps, some lower case letters and numbers to gain entrance to the manager. The manager will then generate new, safer passwords for all your accounts – its easy. The manager stores all your passwords for you to enter with one click to input the password for you each time.
In Facebook, say you find out there was a breach, go to your password manager to create a new password for Facebook with a few clicks.
Using tools like password managers, making a habit of creating hard to crack passwords is a good start.

Biz Tip of The Day: Commitment, Another Key to Success

Commitment is another key to success. W.H. Murray said it best, “The moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help that would never otherwise have occurred. A stream of events issues from the decision, raising unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamt would have come his way.”

In my humble opinion, based on years of experience, it takes more than just commitment. Among them are perseverance, courage, commitment, enthusiasm, loyalty to our code of ethics and faith. When any one of these keys is missing it changes the outcome of any endeavor – and not for the better. We begin to see great things happen in our private and business lives when we combine all of these key elements throughout our endeavors.

Biz Tip of The Day: Perseverance Brings Success

Perseverance brings success. Try new ventures and don't fear failure. Every successful person has had multiple failures you never hear about, but you do hear about their successes such as those of Thomas Edison and Jack Canfield (Chicken Soup series). Learn from failures; without attempts and failures it is rare for a person to ever become a success. Every failure brings experience and knowledge for the next challenge.

On the other hand, don't be afraid of success. Actually such a fear does exist among many without their being aware of it.

Long shots do come in and hard work, dedication and perseverance will overcome almost any prejudice and open almost any door: John Johnson

Biz Tip of The Day: He Was Turned Down by 144 Publishers - Perseverance

Biz tip of the day: He was turned down by 144 publishers. Guess who? Author and speaker, Jack Canfield who has sold over 500,000 books and is a co-founder of the "Chicken Soup for The Soul " series, revealed that 144 publishers refused to publish the first Chicken Soup book. Perseverance brought success after many, many failures in both his case and that of Thomas Edison.

Thomas Edison once made the statement, "I have not failed, I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work."

Biz Tip of The Day: A Productive Leadership Plan

A productive leadership plan:

Get your team focused. Have a daily and weekly routine to follow. Monday is vision day. Identify three positive things to be executed that week; everyday identify three positive outcomes for the day; Friday go over the prior week's results by asking what three things went well, what three things need improvement. Each week should improve when you keep the successful processes, improve upon others and drop the hopeless.

This is a great way of keeping in communication with your team, constantly clarifying problems and their goals, not to mention carrying forth a dynamite learning curve to benefit your business. Making them feel they are important to your operation is job security through success for everyone.
