Why Miss the Mark -- Write a Better Book, Part 3
For unpublished non-fiction writers, or authors who want to improve

There’s more in this last part of Why Miss the Mark. Remove all distractions, or remove yourself from them. You will know what they are. Enlist a friend, family member, or a colleague to keep reminding you about your work, by asking new questions, or adding something of interest to your research.

Remove the negatives from your mind, and from your workplace. John C. Maxwell, in his book, “How Successful People Think,” writes some phrases which almost guarantee killing creative thinking, anytime you think them, or hear them. Here are 11 of the ones he listed. (It's a great little book):

1: I’m Not a Creative Person
2: Don’t Ask Questions
3: Don’t Be Different
4: Stay Within the Lines
5: There is Only One Way
6: It’s Never Been Done
7: Be Practical
8: It Can’t Be Done
9: It’s Too Much Work
10: Yes, But …
11: Failure is Final

For unpublished non-fiction writers, or authors who want to improve

Capture ideas on paper as soon as they appear. Jot down one-liners, or outlines to sit down and build on, later. Waiting for the right feeling to write is always a bad plan. You want to stay on target by staying focused. The more you practice discipline, the better you get at it.

Continually ask yourself questions about your subject, and find the answers. Focus without interruption, and put it into writing.

Bounce ideas, and verbiage off others, and ask them to verify the clarity of your message. You may want to limit this exercise to those most trusted friends, family, and colleagues. Also gain insight from a variety of people familiar in the field. Be bold. Tell them are you are writing a book, and ask for an interview. Obtain permission to quote them in your book. Believe me, they will like the possibility of having their name, and quote in a published book.

Think, stay focused, while using your creative thinking abilities. You can go a little crazy with your ideas, but always come back to reality. Always come back to the bottom line. Strive for perfection, but don’t get hung up on it. Leave in tact what is inevitably ambiguous about your topic. Every topic has gray areas. You should write about any contradictions in the field, as well as proven theories.

Never stop learning, and growing as you write. If you cannot seem to develop an idea, leave it, and go on to something else. You can always come back to it, or discard the idea, altogether.

List your priorities. Know yours talents, weaknesses, strengths, and knowledge. Fill in the rest with footnoted materials. We are revealing so much valuable information for you, right here on this page.

You cannot imagine how much more we offer throughout our writers' programs, so please, check it out at:(Start with the Home Study Program):

Biz Tip of The Day: Why Miss the Mark -- Write a Better Book Part 1

Why Miss the Mark -- Write a Better Book, Part 1
For unpublished non-fiction writers, or authors who want to improve

Good planning, and good positive thinking can do many things for your non-fiction book: It creates opportunity, solves problems, provides valuable information, makes you and/or your business known, and generates revenue.

Do you want to have to tools to help you master the process of good writing? Do you want to improve your writing, everyday? If the answer is yes, and yes, then you need to engage in a process that will improve your writing skills.

What you put into your research impacts the results of your finished book. Read magazines, and books, view videos, and listen to tapes esoteric to your topic. Interview professionals, who know more than you do, in the field of your subject.

Locate a place which you find comfortable, as far as lighting, and sound, with appealing surroundings, a place where you can research, and explore your ideas, and put them into words.

Set a time and the number of hours you will work on your book each day. Do take the necessary breaks of eating, etc., and breaks to refresh yourself. Remember, revising over and over doesn’t improve your output, and is a frustrating waste of valuable time. Constantly doing revisions is a major reason many writers never finish their books; avoid revisions.

Biz Tip of The Day: What it Takes to get on the Author's Path to Success not Always Easy

Biz Tip: What it takes to get on the author's path to success is not always easy to solve, alone. Here are some questions that for writers, and authors, alike. Why is it, when an individual has an idea, and wants to develop, or market a new product, it is commonplace, and expected that they invest in hiring one or more consultants in that field, to do research and development (R & D)? Why is it that they will go on to do the same thing later, with a marketing consultant, in order to sell that developed product -- and yet, why is it a writer rarely applies those same business tools in the molding, and shaping of, production of, or promotion of developing an such an appealing product as a book?

There are many reasons are for this kind of mindset. You may be surprised at some of the following five reasons many would be authors get stuck, don't seek outside help, or don't see fit to apply effective business tools:

First, is not realizing that similar tried and true business techniques also work with something as creative as writing. There are no tool dies, or actual parts that you can hold in your hands to fit together, but, in reality, a writer's words do have to come together enticingly, have substance, and work for the reader, all at the same time.

Secondly, like inventors, some are better at producing a product, while others are better at marketing a product. Some writers, much like inventors, need outside help for them to see the light to get past some huge stumbling block. Many authors have said that they wish they had invested early on in their careers, in order to excel sooner, without so much frustration.

For example, bouncing ideas off colleagues, and experts in the field of writing often spurs a writer on to explore new ideas, or to better some good ideas. Realistically, writers don't have access to colleagues, and experts at will, and since they don't have a vested interest in your work, it is always better to seek an expert consultant for guidance.

The thing that is so great about the Author Success Programs, offered by Author Success International, is that each of these stumbling blocks, or areas of concern are dealt with between each writer client, and his/her Author Coach.

More to come on how you can overcome more stumbling blocks to clear the way for your success. You won’t find a better offer than the Business Owners Writing System Home Study Program at:
