Biz Tip of The Day: Describe What You do in an Elevator speech

Biz tip of the day: Describe what you do in an elevator speech. Use a well polished 20 second elevator speech,or elevator pitch, as it is sometime referred to. Make it one you can deliver between floors – that's where it got its name. Explain how you and your expertise can help them grow their business, make or save them money, manage their time more efficiently, make their lives easier, eliminate stress, or perhaps all of these things. Present whatever unique benefits you and your wares offer.

Whenever asked by anyone what you do, be prepared. One way to do it is to start off by saying “My name is ---.” Memorize every word but make it roll off your tongue naturally. Look the prospect in the eye, smile, while keeping your shoulders back and speak with confidence. Your passion and sincerity will make a strong, lasting impression.

Secondly, give your business name, “Work for XYZ Company,” or “My business is saving money for entrepreneurs …. .” You will need to modify according to your specialized business. Hearing results rather than details of how you help the listener is vital. Stay away from technical details. Sometimes it is important for you to mention your geographical location of operation; only mention it if it is pertinent.

This and numerous other business basics are covered more extensively in my new book Buzz Your Business & Be The Best. You may purchase it at: www.MargueriteCavanaugh.com.

In the book I explain how I wrote Buzz Your Business using the Business Owners Writing System: www.BusinessOwnersWritingSystem.com, an Author Success International program to help entrepreneurs write their own compelling story of struggles and successes. Their expertise and how they and their wares can benefit their clients. I am marketing director for Author Success International and understand the value of such a book used as a dynamite sales tool to grow business.
